Eddie Von Walt and the Infinite Bulb: recipes, a merchant and Eddie's book

Eddie Von Walt and the Infinite Bulb is a hands-only VR roguelike for Meta Quest: you run a bar inside a power plant gone mad, serve thirsty cubes and, when the storm hits, throw bottles and glasses at the ones that attack. A lot has changed since the last gameplay video: every run is now a real climb.

Six nights, one recipe at a time

A run lasts six nights, and the night number is always visible under the score. At the end of every night three cards float above the counter and you pick one with a pinch. We call them recipes: there are 20 so far, split into common, rare and legendary. Each bends the rules its own way: heavier ice, double stock, more patient customers, and more.

Rares start showing up after the second night, legendaries after the fourth. You don't have them all from the start: they unlock by reaching goals, and sometimes a new recipe unlocks while you're still playing.

Eddie's book

From the street menu you can open Eddie's Recipe Book and flip through it with your hands. It has five sections, with tabs on the right: common, rare and legendary recipes, curses and gloves. Whatever you haven't found yet stays a black silhouette with a hint on how to get it.

The merchant

From the second night, sometimes, a merchant stops at the counter and opens his case with three offers: a recipe, an extra life slot or a recipe swap, or a pact that costs nothing but comes with a curse. Offers are paid for with the tokens customers leave behind. If you're not interested, send him away with a pinch.

There are five curses, and each has a price: stock that doesn't refill, higher prices, longer storms, lights that die in the dark, a vodka that burns less.

The jukebox and the gloves

The jukebox on the counter now has four buttons: slow down the next wave, hand out supplies, bring luck to the next customer, or let you pick one more recipe at the end of the night. Every purchase in the same night raises the price.

And then the gloves. Eddie has his electrician's hands, and by reaching certain goals you unlock more pairs, each with a small perk. You choose them from the book.

In the opening story a hand shows how to grab and throw things, and you can replay the lesson from the settings.

What we fixed

Every update gets tested on a Quest together with my sister, who tells me bluntly what is too hard. Since the last test: the small fast cubes are more manageable, throwing no longer sends objects flying back, the jukebox no longer covers the beer tap and the merchant no longer blocks your view.

Where we are

It's still a prototype, and I'm building it update after update. Weapons and the final boss are planned, but not in the game yet. There's no release date or price: when there is, you'll find it here and on the game page.

If you want to follow the build, you can leave your email on the game page: I'll let you know when the first playtest opens.
