Eddie Von Walt and the Infinite Bulb is a hands-only VR roguelike for Meta Quest: you run a bar inside a power plant gone mad, serve thirsty cubes and, when the storm hits, stop them with whatever you have on the counter. This update brings the first weapons and a video of a full run: six nights, then Overtime.
The phase probe
The phase probe sits in a brass bracket on the counter. Grab it with a pinch and thrust it toward a cube: an electric arc stuns it and jumps to nearby cubes, up to four, with a shorter stun each jump. If the cube is soaked in beer, it dies fried. A reticle over the target shows who will be hit: blue on soaked cubes, yellow on dry ones. When the tip is charged it hums and throws a few sparks, and when it's empty it goes dark.
The breaker
The main breaker is a grey box with a red lever, set into the counter just below its edge. Grab the handle with a pinch and pull it down: for two and a half seconds the street blacks out and every cube freezes, even thieves running away. It takes time to recharge, and now a bar on the box tells you how long: red while it recharges, green when it's ready.
You carry one weapon at a time. In SETTINGS you choose which one a run starts with, and sometimes the merchant offers one for tokens.
The book now knows about weapons
Eddie's Recipe Book has two new tabs. WEAPONS shows each weapon with what it does, how to use it and how many times you've used it. STATS keeps count of everything: cubes taken down by type, time behind the bar, runs played, your furthest night, best score, customers served, tokens, glasses thrown and glasses broken. Stats are saved between runs.
Your recipes, always in sight
Under the board hanging from the ceiling there's now a strip with the icons of the recipes you've picked this run. Look at one and its name appears. Before, you had to remember them.
More difficulty, with more help
Difficulty used to ramp up too early, and by night three you were out of stock. Now every night has its own curve: more cubes each night, but the shelf is always full at the start of a night and your first recipe really helps. The video shows the result: a full run, all the way to Overtime.
There are also two new options. An aim marker that shows which cube a throw will lock onto, and a hand choice, so you can play left-handed with the counter mirrored. And Eddie's electrician gloves now have cuffs: under the glove you can see the shirt and then the jacket sleeve.
Where this comes from
I test every update on the Quest with my sister. The probe as you see it now came from her: at first it was painfully slow to charge and you couldn't tell when it was ready, so it got the chain lightning, the hum and the reticle. The breaker is the favourite of the people who tried it, which is why it now has its own bar.
Where we are
It's still a prototype, and I'm building it update after update. The final boss is planned, but it isn't in the game yet. There's no release date and no price: when there are, you'll find them here and on the game page.
If you want to follow the build, you can leave your email on the game page: I'll let you know when the first playtest opens.
